Which signature do you need?
Not every transaction requires the same form. The law distinguishes how well a signature must prove the person and the content. Note & Sign covers the levels that come up in everyday trades and real estate work. The examples refer to German law.
Timesheets, work reports, measurements, acceptance and handover records, order confirmations. An electronic signature is fully effective here (Art. 25 eIDAS Regulation). In a dispute, what counts is how well it can be proven.
Free: signature with name, place, time, device and SHA-256 checksum. Business: additionally a PAdES seal (the European standard for PDF signatures) with an RFC 3161 timestamp from an independent timestamp authority. Any PDF reader then shows whether the document was changed after signing and when it was signed.
For example a brokerage agreement for a flat or a single-family house (§ 656a BGB). It requires a legible declaration on a durable medium that names the person making it.
Free and Business: a PDF from Note & Sign with name and signature meets this.
Contracts for which the law requires a handwritten signature, for example consumer loans. Electronically, this is only possible with a qualified electronic signature (QES, § 126a BGB), for which an accredited trust service provider verifies your identity.
Master (planned): connection to accredited signature services for the QES. Simple signatures and the PAdES seal remain available, and you choose per document.
Terminating an employment contract (§ 623 BGB), a guarantee given by a private person (§ 766 BGB) and anything that must be notarised, such as buying land. No app can help here.
